How to make a delicious ice latte - a chilled drink recipe for coffee drinkers
Some people prefer to drink coffee hot, while others prefer to drink it with ice. The second option is especially relevant in the warm season. During the heat wave, an iced latte can become a staple drink that is both refreshing and rich in caffeine. In this article, we will tell you how to prepare a great ice latte, which you can enjoy on your own or please your guests.
Ingredients
Prepare the following components of our wonderful drink:
- 1-2 servings of espresso (strong brewed coffee will do)
- 1 cup of milk of your choice - whole, skim, almond milk
- ice cubes or balls
- optional sugar, flavored syrup or sweetener
Tools
Like a true professional, take care to have an inventory:
- An espresso machine, coffee maker or turbo brewer
- Glass or thermo mug
- Stirrer or spoon
Thermoses and thermal mugs are great for keeping things not only warm, but cold as well. If in a plastic glass the ice will melt in the heat for 20-30 minutes, then in a special dish it can keep cold for up to 6-8 hours. Therefore, do not hurry to put them away in a distant drawer at the onset of warm weather.
Steps
There's nothing complicated about making a delicious ice latte - follow these simple instructions:
1. Brew the coffee
First, make a couple shots of espresso using an espresso machine. If you do not have an espresso machine, strong brewed coffee will suffice. As a last resort, you can heat a mug with boiling water, pour in the coffee and also fill it with boiling water.
Depending on how strong you like your coffee, aim for 50-70% of a cup. An Ice Latte should have a little more coffee than a regular latte, as the ice will melt over time and dilute the concentration of the drink.
2. Chill
Pour the hot espresso or coffee into a separate container and let it cool to room temperature. You can place it in the refrigerator for a few minutes to speed up the process.
Cooling the coffee before adding ice has the specific purpose of minimizing dilution. If you pour hot coffee directly over ice, it will melt much faster, resulting in a weaker, watery drink. If you chill the coffee first, the rate at which the ice melts will be reduced, allowing the iced latte to retain its strength and flavor.
3. Prepare the glass
While the coffee is cooling, fill the glass with ice cubes. Not only will the ice cool the drink, but it will dilute the strong coffee, making it more palatable.
4. Add milk
Pour about one cup of milk, which you prefer, into the glass on top of the ice. The milk will act as a balancing ingredient, leveling out the bitter notes of the coffee.
5. Combine and stir
When the coffee has cooled, pour it into a glass with the milk and ice. Using a stirrer or spoon, mix the ingredients thoroughly. For those who like sweeter drinks - it's time to add sweetener to your taste. Stir again.
6. Taste and adjust
Take a sip and adjust the flavor. If the coffee flavor is too strong, add more milk. Remember that the ice will melt and dilute the coffee too. If the flavor is too weak, you can add more coffee, if any, or reduce dilution by removing some ice.
7. Serving
Now our iced ace latte is ready to be served. As an additional decoration, you can garnish it with a slice of lemon or a sprig of mint. A great idea would be whipped cream drizzled with caramel or chocolate topping.
Enjoy your drink and remember that the quality of the ingredients greatly affects the final result. Choose them wisely and you will get an invigorating and tasty drink.
